Start a Team or Join a Team:
Teams can be made up of anyone! Friends, family, corporations, hospitals,
sports teams, civic groups, clubs and churches! Teams are made up of 8-1 5
people and are required to fundraise $1,000 per team ($100 per person for
a team of 10). Develop a team theme, decorate your campsite at the event,
and have fun as you Relay overnight to battle cancer. At least one member
per team should be “relaying” on the track at all times.
Corporate Sponsorship:
Corporate sponsorship dollars enable the American Cancer Society to cover
the costs of Relay For Life. Sponsorship levels for the Relay range from
$100 -$10,000. Sponsorship program and details can be obtained from your
local ACS office.
In-Kind Donations:
There is never a donation that we will turn down! Do you have a karaoke
machine that we can use at the event? Can your restaurant supply
hamburgers and hot dogs for the concession stand? Can you donate a gift
certificate to a local restaurant or store? Do you know a Di or band that
might want to provide entertainment at our event? Our best resource is
YOU, so please know that even if you can’t support the event by being on a
team, we still need your contacts and in-kind donations!
Volunteer at the Event:
Volunteers are the key to our success. No matter what your interests or
time commitment is, we appreciate your help! Flip burgers at the
concession stand, help fill Luminaria bags, volunteer in the survivor
tent, help us register our teams and collect money... We have great
volunteer opportunities for individuals, groups, and families alike.
Invite a Survivor to Relay:
Survivors are the HEART of why we Relay, and we want to honor our
survivors at Relay For Life. Do you know a survivor? Tell them about
Relay! We have a survivor reception, special t-shirts for our survivors,
and the highlight of our event is just for them! The Survivor Lap is
dedicated to celebrating their victory, and will take place on June 11th
Bring friends and family to cheer them on as they circle the track — it is
a memory you will NEVER forget!
Purchase a Luminaria Bag:
The Luminaria Ceremony takes place at 10:00pm, and is our time of quiet
reflection as we remember those who have lost their battle to cancer and
honor those who survive. You can purchase Luminaria bags for $10 each in
Honor or Memory of someone special to you. The bag will be lit and on
display as we walk the track in silence and honor the memory of those who
have faced this dreaded disease. Bags can be purchased before the event or
the night of the event.
Event Goal:
The event goal for the Relay For Life of Barrington is
$265,000. The goal for the 2004 Relay For Life Events in
the Northwest Suburban Region is $1.3 million dollars.
How is the money used by the ACS?
The proceeds raised through Relay For Life events support the American
Cancer Society and its community-based programs in the surrounding area.
These programs are dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health
problem through research, education, advocacy, and patient services. 94%
of each dollar raised goes directly to the cause.
